Disclaimer. My post(s) are intended to be informative only, not opinion pieces
What Trump is prob not great at, messaging. Nor is he the most empathetic. He's a cut throat businessman. This isn't criticism just my critique. Most billionaires are built this way. Personally, I’m too empathetic and don't think I could play the game of 'chicken' or 'Risk' that he's playing.
If we could only combine Trump's business acumen with Obama's oratory skills, and empathy. That's what made FDR so good. At the height of the Depression, the very night the Government was taking cash to the banks, he got on the radio for his Fireside chat and communicated with American People. He got them to bring their money back and not make a run on the banks. Maybe one day...
Again, not voicing an opinion, but here's what's happening:
Trump ran in 2016 on eliminating US debt. I don't know how he'll do that and eliminate the Income Tax but we'll see. Strategically what I think he's saying, "I will eliminate debt which will 'THEN' minimize the need for income taxes. Just one point of emphasis, we will always as long as we have a government, require some form of income tax. But I digress...
US has been operating at a deficit for a while, which is why we're now 33 Trillion in debt. Every time they increase the debt ceiling and throw more money into the economy, that devalues your dollar. This is why everything is so expensive.
The Press Secretary was wrong about who pays Import Taxes. Unless she's using the term 'Tax' figuratively. The Importer pays, which we as consumers absorb BUT it does promote domestic growth. It reduces the Demand for the exporting country, and increases demand domestically. This is why Canada isn't happy
His Fiscal Policy:
Market Correction, forcing US Business Growth by reducing Imports, Increasing GDP, and Decreasing the rate of inflation. Utilizing his presidential power to implement Tariffs has been his preferred strategy here.
Eliminating Gov't Programs as they're a large reason we've been operating at a Deficit. This is what happened to DEI. These laws when created usually include the statement “And the Gov’t shall have the right to enforce…” Which usually means another agency. Think about this, he didn’t touch DEI 2016. (More on DEI in an upcoming blog)
Improve Government Efficiency. DOGE is Trump's version of Operational Efficiency (aka Process/ Performance Improvement). Most large companies have a PI department. Again, not stating my opinion on 'how' it's being implemented. I personally wish there was more transparency here. However with my background in Performance Improvement, I'm a huge advocate that if you're not meeting outcomes, or you're operating in the margin, that you pull your OE team in. I also believe lay offs should be the last approach to saving money. Unfortunately it seems to be the first and the easiest thing to do
Aggressive Deportation. This one is difficult for me because we were founded as a nation of immigrants. We will never be able to shed that identity, nor should we. When I think about immigration in the context of my Faith, upon which this country was also founded, I will always find room in my heart care. However, illegal immigration puts a significant strain on our economy, our resources, and your tax dollars. Especially in industries like Healthcare where they are required by law to stabilize and treat anyone who presents to them in distress.
In short, there are larger things going on here. I don't think the border is really 'only' about Fentanyl. I also think a significant portion of our approach on 'Ukraine' is about spending. Short term, trying to correct the budget will be difficult, and it won't be fun. But ask any accountant or finance expert, long term balancing the budget is good. It will strengthen our economy and your dollar. He's playing Chess not Checkers
What I've noticed about Biden and Trump, maybe this is because they're old school. They do what they feel regardless of perception. Look at how we pulled out of Afghanistan. We'd been talking about it for years, and due to a laundry list of reasons, we didn't, perhaps we couldn't. And Biden, suddenly, one day just made the decision to do it.
